Peace & Freedom Party’s co-sponsored Suds, Snacks & Socialism monthly forum series is back at Starry Plough Pub in Berkeley (3101 Shattuck Avenue; click here for map) on Saturday, April 1. All are welcome to discuss the topic What are the Prospects for World Peace?

As the U.S. and other NATO countries send more weapons to Ukraine in response to Russia’s invasion, we could be facing the most dangerous situation since the Cuban Missile Crisis. The world seems to be breaking into two warring camps, one led by the United States and the other by Russia and China. Seemingly unreachable, the potential for nuclear attack and environmental destruction make peace necessary for everyone's survival.

Join our panelists to discuss the present situation and what it would take to create the peaceful world we need.

• Anthony D’Agostino – Emeritus Professor of History at San Francisco State University, and author of The Rise of Global Powers: International Politics in the Era of the World Wars; and
• Richard Tan – Bay Area criminal and civil rights attorney, Marxist thinker and activist.

At the turn of the 20th century, socialist women in the U.S. and in Europe separately proposed a Women’s Day to promote equality in the trade union and socialist movements. The first International Women’s Day was held on March 19, 1911. It was changed to March 8 in 1913, four years before Petrograd women textile workers struck for peace and bread.
