Clean Money advocates met with Emily Berry (pictured below in first image, third from left), the Legislative Director for Assembly Member Stephanie Nguyen, and Amaya Childes (in second image, second from left), Elections staffer for Senator Angelique Ashby, to discuss the California Fair Elections Act. This act currently exists as public funding bills AB 270 and SB 24 which are making their way to the floors of the State Assembly and State Senate, respectively.
The Peace and Freedom Party voted to support these bills if amended. And at present, these bills are undergoing amended to make it easier for poor candidates to receive public funding.
Because PFP did not have time to discuss the amendments, our Legislative Liaison, C.T. Weber, participated as a Clean Money advocate. If either AB 270 or SB 24 passes, it would go on the 2026 general election ballot. This gives us time to determine whether the amendments are enough for us to support a ballot proposition for public funding.
