On October 20, some 35 to 40 people gathered at the home of Mark Merin and Cathleen Williams in downtown Sacramento for a No on O House Party. The event's purpose was to raise awareness and money to defeat Measure O.

The City of Sacramento placed O, a complicated measure, on the ballot. City leaders argue that Measure O will get the homeless off the streets – but speakers opposed to Measure O said that the way it gets people off the streets is not through police sweeps of homeless people. This is wasteful, traumatic, and costly to those in need of housing. Measure O diverts money from real programs to get people into housing, providing services like providing job training skills, and treatment for mental problems Illness, and substance abuse. 

Opponents also argued that jails can not solve these problems. The movers and shakers in attendance were grateful to receive the informational flier from Peace & Freedom Party.  

On the evening of October 15, 20 cosponsoring organizations, including the Peace & Freedom Party of Sacramento County central committee and friends, gathered at the Sacramento Native American Health Center on land that has been home for thousands of years to the Miwok people for the 43rd annual Sacramento Take Back the Night rally.

Take Back the Night started in 1877 in England for women only to protest against the violence and fear women encountered when walking the streets at night. It came to the United States in 1978 when women in San Francisco protested violence against women, especially sexual assaults. Take Back the Night hopes to raise awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other violence and abuse against women.

Peace & Freedom Party’s co-sponsored Suds, Snacks & Socialism monthly forum series continues online via Zoom on Saturday, October 8, with talks on the topic California Propositions Demystified.

The November 8, 2022 ballot contains seven propositions. Some offer easy decisions for the left. Others raise questions about health care and environmental policy, and require us to scrutinize who really benefits and where the money is coming from. Join us with your questions and ideas.

Speaking on the ballot propositions will be PFP State Central Committee members Marsha Feinland on Props 1, 28, 29 and 31; David Landry on Props 26 and 27; and David Campbell on Prop 30.
