On November 7th, 2023, members of the Peace and Freedom Party of Butte County stood side by side with the Chico Palestine Advocacy Network to call for a ceasefire in Palestine. The resolution they put forth to the Chico City Council is the same resolution adopted by the city of Providence, Rhode Island, a week earlier. Other city councils around the U.S., including Richmond, California, have passed similar ceasefire resolutions.

This action occurred one month after the surprise attack launched by Hamas against Israel. The attack resulted in the death of around 1,200 people, hundreds of them Israeli soldiers, and in the taking of Israeli hostages, military and civilian. Israel responded with wholesale bombardment, blockading, and cutting off resources such as food, power, internet, and water to the entire Palestinian population of Gaza. This collective punishment of the people of Gaza has resulted in over 10,000 deaths, including 4,000 children, and in the destruction of hospitals. The deprivation and killing continues.

The resolution has not yet been taken up by the Chico City Council. PFP Butte County continues to contact other local organizations to support this effort. They call on all PFP members and comrades in allied organizations to work towards proposing similar resolutions to their prospective city councils throughout the state and country in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Following is the text of the resolution:

In California, voter registration is very important to political parties. The very existence of a political party as “ballot-qualified” is determined by the number of votes its statewide candidates receive or by the number of voters registered with the party. As the only feminist socialist political party on the California ballot, it is imperative that the Peace and Freedom Party continues as a qualified party.

Quite simply, the Peace and Freedom Party will not be able to provide Californians with candidates that will represent us unless we register and vote Peace and Freedom.

For all the information you need on registering to vote, visit the California Secretary of State's homepage at SOS.Ca.gov or just click here.

Thank you for registering Peace and freedom Party, and thank you for your vote!
