On June 7, over 30 supporters of the Poor People’s Campaign gathered in front of the Federal building where Representative Doris Matsui has her district office to ask her to support the Third Reconstruction Resolution to End Poverty.
We took turns reading the 20 Whereases to the resolution to expand voting rights, immigration reform, and adequate incomes among other issues. This legislation draws on the history of the first Reconstruction following the Civil War and the second Reconstruction of the civil rights struggles of the 20th century.
Over one-quarter of the people gathered were Peace & Freedom Party members and activists in key struggles.
