Education as Political Football: a Suds, Snacks & Socialism online forum

Peace & Freedom Party’s co-sponsored Suds, Snacks & Socialism monthly forum series continues in online form via Zoom meeting on Saturday, January 8, to discuss Education as Political Football.

Political polarization in the United States is playing out in public school governance, policies, and curricula, as well as in political rhetoric around public education. From vaccine and mask mandates to ethnic studies, race and class battle lines abound.

Join the speakers at this forum, who will talk about the impending San Francisco School Board recall election, the recent Virginia gubernatorial election and other topics to illustrate how public education is serving as a staging area for system-wide conflict.

• Jack Gerson, retired Oakland public school teacher and former Oakland Education Association executive board and bargaining team member.
• Nathalie Hrizi, bilingual librarian/teacher with SFUSD for 15 years and UESF Executive Board member for three years, currently VP for Substitutes, and Peace & Freedom Party candidate for Insurance Commissioner.
